Botanical Name: Citrus paradisi
Part Used: Peels
Process: Cold pressed:
Plant Description: Native to Barbados in the Caribbean Sea, where it was first believed to have hybridized and was dubbed the fruit of paradise; cultivated in Dominican Republic, Dominica Island, Jamaica, Trinidad, Brazil, Israel, Nigeria and more recently in Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas. Grapefruit plants are subtropical small evergreen trees with stiff thorns growing to a height of 25 feet with glossy green oval leaves and white and pink flowers. Rounded or spherical green fruits turn yellow in color when ripe. The oil of grapefruit is cold pressed from the peels of ripened fruit.
Oil Description: Yellow, greenish-yellow or pale yellow-orange mobile oil with a fresh, somewhat dry citrus aroma and a delicately sweet undertone. Our pink Grapefruit peel oil is especially fresh and delicate! Although citrus oils are prone to turning sour, careful storage will prolong the shelf life: in dark, tightly capped glass bottles stored in a dry, cool, dark place, with little or no air space above the surface of the oil (and preferably with an injection of nitrogen or other inert gas to replace the air).
